Life sucks. Let’s make new worlds and tell great stories.

Yep, I’ve been at this for days and this is the best artist statement I could come up with (can you believe I used to be a copywriter?). Not the most eloquent there is, perhaps, but it is honest.

I spent my whole life trying to make sense of the world through art and storytelling, which led me to illustration. My current focus is on comics and personal narratives with fantastical elements to create a more interesting reality. I am also working on my first graphic novel.

So what’s MY story?

Hi, I’m Cassie, an illustrator and storyteller based in Singapore who just found my voice again, which is kind of important when you’re a storyteller. Fed up with trying to fit in and moving through society as politely as possible, I rage-quit my last job to hole up in my cosy book- and plant-filled apartment and make strange, useless, but super cool art. If they inspire you or make you feel uncomfortable, then I’ve done my work.

Before moving back home, I spent many years abroad in China and the United States, which gave me a unique perspective on the world and how to find a sense of belonging when everyone else is hell-bent on pigeonholing you and your own identity. Now I do most of my traveling from my messy desk at home via my sketchpad, LARPing as a mad architect and landscape designer from another planet.

Fun facts about me

  • My real name is Cassandra, which is fitting because no one usually believes what I say.

  • Besides art, I like to read, journal, swim, hike, garden and squeeze fat babies.

  • I don’t like crowds, loud noises, texting on my phone, morning meetings and people asking about my career aspirations.

  • Tools of the trade: ink, paper and Photoshop.

  • My love language is touching people’s arm fat or earlobes.

  • I’ve traveled to 20 countries. Next up: Turkey and Egypt!

  • Currently missing from my life: big mountains.
